Are You Feeling the Financial Pinch?
How About Some Help Stretching Your Food Budget ?

All of us are dealing with rising prices, with little relief in sight. Memorial Baptist Church, 995 Peppers Ferry Road, Pulaski, Virginia has joined with SHARE to help you stretch your family’s food budget.

If you eat you’re in!  No pre-qualifications, no clubs to join, no standing in long lines at the supermarket, just place an order for your food and then pick it up!
You will receive a selection of first quality meats, fruits and vegetables for a fraction of the cost that you would pay at your local grocery stores. You will not have to sacrifice quality for a bargain. The menu items changes each month so you can fix a variety of nutritious meals. You may purchase as many boxes as you wish, so if you have a large family or if you see something you really like you can stock up.

Okay, I am sure you are asking, "what’s the catch", there isn’t a catch but an opportunity for you to save money and do something good for your community. We would like for everyone purchasing the boxes to give a couple of hours a month to helping. Maybe you fixed a meal for a sick friend, perhaps you assist with a school program or at your local library, you may teach a Sunday School class or volunteer to take a neighbor to the doctor. Whatever you do to help someone else qualifies. This is on the honor system you are not required to have documented proof, we just want to instill "one good turn deserves another" in each of us. You can check with our SHARE coordinator for a list of volunteer ideas.

The boxes are $20 per box and each month there will be a variety special boxes that you can also purchase.

We will offer the program starting with the October boxes so watch for the menus by mid September. All boxes must be paid for by check, money order, cash or food stamps by the deadline each month. You may mail your payment or stop by the church office to make your payment.  If you are using food stamps, you must present your card in person.

F.A.Q (Better known as Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What does SHARE stand for?
SHARE stands for Self Help and Resource Exchange. It is a non-profit program to offer first quality food to anyone who wants to stretch their food dollars.

2. How do I join?
There is nothing to join, you simply review the menu of food each month and decide if you want to purchase a box or boxes, place your order and pay for it by the deadline that will be listed each month, then pick it up on Delivery Day. We encourage everyone to provide two hours of community service each month. If you want to order every month you may or if you decide that you want to pick and choose that's fine. You may find you will want one or more boxes if your family is particularly fond of the items that month but purchase nothing for the next month or months. This is not a club, there are no minimum or maximum purchases.

3. Do I have to be on Welfare or receive food stamps to participate?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. This is for everyone who EATS! If you receive food stamps, just like at the grocery store, you may use the food stamps to purchase your boxes.

4. Are the items "seconds" or out of date foods?
NO, No, NO! All of the food is first quality restaurant grade food. Because of the large number of participants, SHARE is able to purchase large quantities of food in bulk at wholesale prices and since there are no middle men, they pass the savings on to you.

5. My neighbor would benefit from this but she doesn't go to Memorial Baptist.
No problem, we need to encourage everyone who can benefit to participate, so please spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors about this wonderful program. You don't have to be affiliated with our church or any organization to participate, remember-IF YOU EAT-YOU"RE IN!

6. Okay, I understand that by mid September we can see the October menu on this page, then what? How do I place an order and how do I get the food?

Just follow these simple steps:

A) Review the menu and decide which boxes you want and how many of each box.
B) Email, call, or stop by the church to place your order.
C) If you email or call you must mail your payment or go by the church to pay the total amount due. If you are using Food Stamps, you must go by the church and present your card in person. All payments MUST be received by the listed due date or your order can not be processed. You will be issued a receipt for your purchase that you must bring with you on Delivery Day.
D) During the month you do a kind deed by offering two hours of volunteer service. Volunteer service is anything you do for someone else that you are not paid to do.
E) On Delivery Day,(usually the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) you bring your receipt and a couple of boxes to Memorial Baptist Church and collect your food.
F) While there, you can place your order and pay for your next month's purchase if you wish.
G) Go home and enjoy your savings!

Here's an idea, once the menu of foods is available on the web site, email us recipes using the items listed so we can share them with others.
